This restaurant is fantastic! My wife and I happened upon this gem over the past Labor Day weekend. Although the location is at the far north end of Main Street it was definitely worth walking an extra block or two and experience this unique dining experience. We were warmly greeted within moments of entering the dining room and seated at a lovely window table for two. The atmosphere is intimate and the recently updated menu is a wonderful blend of German and French appetizers and entrees. The wide selections of European beers and wines are astounding. My wife and I enjoyed a bottle of Reserve Perin Cote du Rhone and began to feel as if we were back in Paris in the spring-time. For our appetizer we enjoyed the Pate Maison which was delicious. For entrees I had the Wiener Schnitzel and my wife had the Poulet Roti, slow roasted chicken, both were incredible. The waiter was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. What a delightful experience. We'll be back again and again!!!
We found a wonderfully bright and unique atmosphere at Fritz & Frites compared to the other dining establishments in the area. Their menu was simple and elegant giving choices of either French or German fare. We had the beef roullade and the broiled salmon. The rollade was tender and tasty with dill and the usual pickle filling served with excellent red cabbage and spaetzle. The salmon was served over very nicely al dente slender green beans and seasoned very well. My only complaint was that it was a bit dry, probably from the fact that it was from frozen as fresh salmon is prohibitive in such a rural local, certainly palatable, however. We are not drinkers, but there is an extensive wine and beer list at Fritz & Fritz. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Our experience overall was satisfying on all counts. We would return there, and even recommended it to strangers on the street.
Great food and drinks: A little French, A little German, A little Bistro only touches the tip of the charm of this little neighborhood family owned restaurant. Located at the end of Main Street (across the street from City Hall), this bistro has a fantastic selection of European food and drinks at a very, very reasonable price. Soups include onion soup with baked Gruyers and Parmesan Cheese crust and Soup Du Jour. Appetizers featured are Pate Maison (house-made chicken liver pate with cornichons, croutons and Dijon mustard), Steamed Mussels Mariniere, Charcuterie Plate (dry-cured sausages, ham and goose liver pate) and a soft pretzel (which go perfectly with the German beers). Salads are all made fresh and offer a house, spinach, Caesar and Chopped Salad which contains grilled chicken, smoked bacon, avocado, blue cheese, tomatoes, green onions, Iceberg and Romaine lettuce in a sweet vinaigrette. Classics include Wiener Schnitzel, Kassler Rippchen (smoked pork chop), Choucroute Garni (sausages and smoked meat) and Bratwurst and Rosti (potato and onion gravy). Bistro Specialties include Coq Au Vin (braised chicken with red wine sauce), Salmon with Lingonberry and Steak Ftites (ribeye steak with parsley butter and pomme frites) Entree selections range from $9.95 to $15.95! There is a good selection of imported beers and wines. Menu and hours change seasonally.
