The food is not to bad, actually pretty good but it got annoying seeing the bartender try and hit on all the girls as the night progressed. I enjoyed drinking my beer and chillin' at the bar. It ended up being the owner that was hitting on every woman in the bar. That's why they keep coming back. He would use the same lines over and over again on each one. I felt so sorry for these ladies. Even the waitress. Doesn't he know not to sh%^ where you eat?
Guys, it's a good place to chill for a beer. Just don't let your lady go alone. That owner was a player! (and not a very good one) So sad....
For the very best hotwings ever, you'll have to try the one's from the Elkhorn Station. They are to die for!!! They use the whole wing (so it's really a double order), the sauce is spicy and sharp, with a touch of vinegar, absolutely perfect. The wings are generously covered in sauce and there is no neat way to eat them, all you can do is to dive right in. I like to order mine with blue cheese crumbles on them, YUMMY!
I love wings and I thought that I have had the best before -NOPE- I never had the best until I had them at Elkhorn Station. Now no-one else's wing measure up!I crave for them, they are that good and better!
In the tradition of Sacramento river eateries this place tries but fails foodwise. Used to go there when it was a hole in the wall. Loved it then and had many a fun night of fish fry, beers and great cornbread. The new Cafe itself looks great, but the food not so. Had the pulled pork sandwich w/beans and fish and chips with slaw and a "green" salad. Looked forward to the Portugese beans, but these were watery and not seasoned. Pulled pork was big, but not tasty. Sauce was too sweet and lacked character. It was like tomato sauce poured over steamed pork. Fish was a nice portion and done well, but the "chips" were old and burned. Salad was supposed to be bleu cheese and italian. Did not have creamy bleu and they don't have italian, so we got just Balsomic vinegar with a few crumbles of cheese, a la wet dry. Along with the gas shortage there must be a cheese shortage. There was just enough tiny crumbles to show the intention of cheese on the salad. Dark brown vinegar on wilted bed of light green lettuce, hmm would you eat that? Not appealing. We were not expecting a strong Balsomic alone. How can you screw up a simple salad? We did like the coleslaw though. That was the highlight besides the friendly dog at my feet. They do not offer the signature mini cornbread muffins that I remember. It was the weekend lunch though. You can only get those on Friday with the fish fry. Thank goodness that still exists, but not sure if I'd go back for that at this point. Portions and price, not great, but this time lucky not to get more bad beans. We were the only ones at the cafe and ate at the bar. The bartender was very helpful and always there, friendly despite the fact we only had water. We always had plenty of bottled iced water in our glasses. Should have ordered a beer, it might have helped. A good idea would have been to shut the doors while we ate so we wouldn't see the cook sweating over a lawn mower outside. I hope that he wasn't doing that before we got there that hot afternoon. Elkorn Station seems like a good place for a beer or glass of wine, but for a simple meal like we had, not sure if I would go deeper in the menu and waste my bucks. First impressions are lasting, remember lunch always comes before dinner. Not sure if dinner is anywhere in the plans now. If they want a hole in the wall drinking establishment that's great, but at least match the food with the decore. If you are going to drive out in the middle of nowhere, you'd expect something special. The food did not deliver. Oh yeah, please shut the door next time the cook mows the lawn.

I am sorry that neonduh had such a bad experience at Elkhorn Station. I go there as often as I can and have never had a bad meal. The chiopino was one of the best I've had. The fish and chips are really good also, as well as the little sliders. The deep fried shrimp are really large and delicious. I hope you give it another chance as it sounds like a very unusual experience. Too bad for you and Elkhorn Station.
