I had a car accident on 3/31/2008 at 6519 Braddock RD Alexandria, VA. After the Fairfax County Police Officer, J.D. Nytes, finished the accident report, he called for a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived, I told the driver I wanted my car was towed to a car repair service center I knew. The service center is at 7131 Columbia Pike Annandale, VA. It was only 3 miles away. The driver told me it was $50 to tow to the service center. I agreed to the fee; let the tow truck driver loaded my car and we left the accident site. I was shocked when I was taken not to the service center but the Henry’s Wrecker Service; 2810 Hartland RD. Falls Church, VA 22043 instead. At their address, I told them they made a mistake and I wanted to go to the service center, not their address. They agreed to tow my car to service center but not before paying the bill for towing my car from the accident site to their address AND from their address to the service center. I was charged a total of $450 which included loading fees, mileage, and storage fee. I tried explaining to them I only agreed for them to tow my car because I was told it was $50 to be towed to from the accident site to my service center. What they did was take me from the accident site to their address and from there took me to the service center. But they would not allow my car to leave until I was forced to pay the bill. I was confused and appalled at this situation. It felt like my car was hijacked, I was kidnapped and I was forced to pay a ransom to get it back. I saw no other choice other than I paid the ransom for both trips and they finally took me and my car to the service center. Henry Wrecker Service took advantage of me during a difficult time; robbed me and swindled me.

Not all towing operators are crooks, but Henry's Towing is definitely one! My wife's car was disabled about 1/2 miles from home and needed to be towed. Once they got it to our house, the tow truck operator wanted $150. He explained that the rate is high because it was a police dispatch and it included a free 15 miles tow. Since the 15 miles tow is included, she asked him to tow the car to our mechanic about 5 miles away. At this request, he changed his tune and insist that the rate is now actually $250 because the car was involved in an accident! This was a BLATANT LIE. As my wife proceed to call the policeman who dispatched the tow truck, the guy just ran off with our car! When she finally got in touch the police, he said that there is nothing they can do about it because their responsibility ends when the tow truck operator arrived! If she wants to fight this injustice, she has to "pay them what ever they asked for and then take them to court". So much for "to serve and protect"! This is a warning to all who are thinking of dealing with Henry's Towing. Don't set yourself up to be RIPPED OFF. Even if Henry's Towing is dispatched by the police, REFUSE SERVICE! It's your right.
