I'm not sure that "Food Critic" dined in the same Downtown 56 as we did last night. It was my husband and I out to celebrate his birthday and our first visit to Downtown 56.The food was delicious, the service amazing. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owners, our first visit but definitly not our last.

I know where I dined. You and I just dont have the same expectations upon entering a restaurant. I look for simple clean food. No more than four flavors per dish. Im glad you enjoyed It and I hope you do go back. Im not out to sway anyone, Im just enclined to say what I see and most Importantly be honest to the culinary world.

This place Is ghastly. Ive eaten It. It's a poor excuse to over charge someone for what you are serving. I have to be honest here, are you proud to be a fake chef? Nothing upscale about this place other than the owners and chef who are confused as to what upscale really Is.

I ate there with my family for Mother's Day, and my mother and I were charged numerous times. I was paying a portion of the bill, and instead was charged that amount, in addition to the full amount of the bill, and another additional charge. My mother was charged twice. For a wannabe upscale restaurant, which takes reservations and makes you put a credit card down to hold reservations, it surely is shady!!! The food was mediocre at best and to now have this to deal with. Isn't it convenient that they are close Sunday night and Monday? Will never dine there again!

I used to work at 56 and the only way you got charged for the bill twice is if the server ordered the same food twice. If that was the case it would've gotten made twice and the server would've been in trouble in the kitchen. I worked that day and I heard of nothing of the sort happening. What probably happened is that the server moved all of the items to "Seat 1" on the bill and it looks like it charged you twice for the same amount. Let's say the server did this and the total was $30. You'll see $30 on "Seat 1" and then again at the bottom under "All". If they hadn't moved everything to one seat, "Seat 1" might be $16 and "Seat 2" $14, and "All" would be $30. The number of seats depends on the number of diners of course. Some servers just moved everything to one seat to give a nice itemized list, especially if one person was paying. If you were charged twice, which is unlikely, then contact 56 and let them know so they can correct the problem instead of letting it go and giving them a bad reputation. By the way, closing on Sunday and Monday is not unusual in the restaurant business.
