This place is absolutly amazing! Great variety of wine. There is something for every pallet, on both the wine and the dinner/lunch menu. And my favorite part- it isnt overrun by students.

Run by a sweet couple originally from Sweden (charming accents) named Gerd and Anders Hedman who took over a peach orchard in Alto Pass, planted a vineyard and began selling their peaches and grapes to local wineries. Essentially, the Hedmans are farmers who got very interested in wine and come from the European tradition. They are hard-working and set out to excel. I had the honor to try some of Anders test bottles before they went commercial around 2004 and it was very good even then. That sense of excellence was maintained now that they are producing in quantity because their first year offerings took several medals including gold for a white and silver for the reds I mention here, out of the first year of production in 2006. This bodes well for the future. I recommend the following offerings from them as you go forward:
    • Chambourcin - a full body red wine, aged in oak barrels with good tannin and overtones for fruit.
    • Tucker Hill Red - a red semi-sweet Chambourcin / Concord blend, with berry flavors.
To be frank, the Tucker Hill needs improvement...as far as I am concerned the Chambourcin is the star of his firmament.

We have stayed in their B&B (they only have 1 room) several times and enjoyed it. Very nice Sweedish decor.

Hedman's is a great place to experience a little bit of Swedish culture in Southern Illinois. The menu items are authentic, the wine is getting much, much better and the small gift shop/dining room is quaint and inviting. If you're looking for something different, you won't do much better in So. Illinois. They also operate a B&B on premises, which is nice, and the owners are very pleasant. Definitely one of the more unique spots to visit in the region.
