Unable to get into the popular restaurant across the road, we took a chance on Lucky Bones. Boy was it a lucky thing. I, too, had the mussels with gorganzola cheese. It was superb. I can still taste the wonderful flavor combination. It was very pleasant and very tasty. I would highly recommend it.
My wife and I go to Cape May about five times a year and we cannot say enough good things about Lucky Bones. It's casual yet gourmet. The service has been always very good and the wait staff and bartenders are pleasant. They have homemade brick oven pizzas which I think are very good. The Maine Mussels with Pan steamed, tomato, basil, gorgonzola, brick oven bread is one of the all time favorites there. I love the goat cheese and beet salad as one my personal loves. This is the best eatery in Cape May for the dollar value gourmet food with a casual atmosphere and great service makes Lucky Bones our place at the shore. They also have a $20 dollar wine list that fits the wallet.
Started out to be an enjoyable evening on July 4th. Plenty of seating at the bar for me and my 7 person party. We had two rounds and our table was ready. We order almost 300 dollars worth of food and when the appetizers came the waitress whispered to me that she couldn't serve another member of my party. From what I gathered, the waitress was scared and the manager made her come over and make this statement. We asked for the manager to come over and she was extremely nasty. Stating that this was her livelyhood etc. Supposedly there was a retired police officer there who claimed the person in my party was drunk. So in other words they took another patrons word over our own (and apparetnly he wasn't too drunk to get served at the bar) Needless to say we left without eating. I paid the waitress for what was consumed and we all left. We stay with friends who have a house less than a quarter of a mile down the road and would have frequented this place often had we not been treated like we just came froma 21 year old frat party. I suppose we look young and were enjoying ourselves and this "tipped" off the "Cop"...nice of him to ruin our night. By the way...2 of the 8 are teachers, 1 is a VP of a NJ company, another a national sales manager, another is helping to build a NJ golf course, another makes her own jewelry , I work at Rutgers University, and my "drunk" friend is studying to be an anistegeolist...we much look like a real rough bunch. I wouldn't go here if you paid me.
