User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMy husband and I began going to Umi as a dating spot. Besides having amazing food, what sets them apart from other restaurants is that we were treated like family as soon as we began dining there. In fact, after we became engaged, we wanted to share our news with the restaurant owners. Then, I immediately chose Umi as the site for my Bridal luncheon. They went out of their way to make it a special event with decorations, fresh flowers and live background music. They even had a charcoal drawing that their son had drawn of us to give as a wedding gift. We always go to Umi for our date night and tell everyone we know to go there for great sushi. I think all of our friends have eaten there at some point with us. :) There are not enough stars to express how wonderful Umi is!
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWe had been told of a small Sushi restaurant in Hickory and had driven by hundreds of times and never even knew Umi existed. But now that we have discovered this jewel we are loyal customers. We have yet to experience their entire menu, but everything we have tried was simply excellent.
Be sure to have a reservation on Friday and Saturday evenings as you will find a full house of those who have discovered UMI.-

This place is terrific! It is in a really weird location in a very tiny building, but they have done a lot with the interior. It is still a little crowded. The tables are so close together that we end up talking to strangers. The food is great and I love their sushi. Portions are not huge, but are sufficient for the price. It IS more expensive than the standard Japanese places around here, but the difference in selection and quality also put the place ahead of the others.
