One of the most incredible dining experiences in Duluth. The staff and management will make you feel like family, and will almost certainly remember you if (when!) you return.

This small chain of three local restaurants is run by the Castellucci Family, specifically by "Mr. C" - Fred Castellucci. If you have lived in Atlanta for a while, you may remember Mr. C from the Roasted Garlic restaurants. Fred is very passionate about the food served at Sugo, as you can see from the video on YouTube - http://youtube.com/watch?v=R6m72vbFqvg

The atmosphere is very upscale, but at the same time very casual. I have felt just as at home and welcomed when I've come in wearing shorts as I have in a suit. The restaurant layout encourages you to relax, have a good meal, and linger over coffee and conversation. Nothing ever feels rushed, and a member of the Castellucci family (Mr C, Nancy, Fred - or sometimes even Stephanie) will surely come by your table to check a few times during the evening.

Of course, I can't say enough about the food. A true Mediterranean mix of Greek and Italian influence. Start with a few small plates of tapas - make sure not to miss the Eggplant Montassio, the Chicken al Sugo, or the Hunters Sausages. Good luck selecting an entree - they are all outstanding, and if you have Mr. C describing the preparation of each dish you might never be able to make up your mind! Some that definitely stand out are the Roman Chicken Cacciatore, the Beggers Purses di Parma (a stuffed "purse" of pasta), and my favorite - Aunt Lena's Chicken. If you possibly save enough room for dessert, the Roman Cheesecake - which is a baklava crust filled with a ricotta cheesecake filling - is phenomenal! As are the Cannoli, the Pasticotto, and the Tiramisu...

My advise is to go with friends, give yourself enough time to have a leisurely meal with plenty of good food and conversation - and wear something loose fitting so that you are not uncomfortable after a fantastic meal! Sugo is definitely one of our favorite restaurants, and my wife and I have taken many of our friends and family there. It is not to be missed!
