The quality of the coffee varies depending on who is making it but it's always better than the surrounding Peet's and Starbucks outlets. The Middle Eastern food is great for the price range ($4-$7), the American style food is good, but I always end up going for the Middle Eastern fare.
The family that runs the place is fun - resulting in great atmosphere. Downsides: can be crowded around lunchtime, not open on weekends. Bottom line: the best food and coffee option in walking distance.

Cafe Taza is located at 1 N. First St. (at Santa Clara St.). Cafe Taza faces Santa Clara st. Their phone number is 408.292.8292.

Cafe Taza has the best cafe atmosphere in downtown San Jose. It is like the cafes in Paris or in the europe or middle east. It is far better atmosphere than starbucks or other corporate coffee places.

Cafe Taza has the best Hummus I ever had and it is homemade! The sandwiches are not expensive and outstanding. The gyros and Falafel are also home made and are truely healthy food and tastey.

I eat at Cafe Taza regularly at lunch or mid afternoon. I love the latte and other coffee drinks as well. It is relaxing place to spend time reading or meeting friends.

Cafe Taza has the great atmosphere because of its owners. A very nice family who's young son is the cashier and always he is friendly making sure our stay is pleasant.

Stop in for a latte or smoothie or sandwiches. I recommend the Gyro and the Hummus. However, the sandwiches are the best downtown. The rolls they are made in are fresh and much better than the fast food places or other sandwich shops.

It is great to have this gem downtown San Jose!

i love this place, it's a wonderfully friendly family owned cafe where the people make the atmosphere all that more personal than that of the "corporate" coffee stops which surround Taza. it's an essential part of the daily downtown grind.
