I encourage everyone not to shop here for the following reasons.
1.) At least 50% of the staff is illegal and the "management" has consistently turned down legal, neighborhood people for jobs in favor or their Korean relatives or Mongolian friends who in all actuality, do NOT have the proper papers to work in the USA. These illegal workers are in the "management" and have racist attitudes, especially towards blacks. Who are they to come to our country and deny our fellow Americans (whatever the color) jobs in favor of their illegal cohorts? We're in a recession and this is even more disgusting.
2.) It's overpriced for the neighborhood and making the poor poorer. It's gentrification at it's worst, especially since so many of their products are POST-DATED on the shelves. Not worth it.
3.) The staff are unprofessional. They don't greet or communicate in a sociable way to customers. Aren't the customers paying their salaries? It's the perfect example of grabbing people's money away without trying to make a good impression.
4.) The owner, Gary Cha, doesn't really believe in the cause of organic food. He's just trying to profit off the poor and get on the band wagon of gentrification, especially since he is more keen on hiring illegal Asians versus legal workers in this country.
Bottom line: DO NOT SPEND A DIME HERE and complain about them to INS. I think it's completely unacceptable that this business is denying jobs to legal Americans BLACK or NOT and behaving so unethically. The worst perpetrator is the manager Amra who will be moving to the Georgia Avenue store soon. His only goal is to hire other Mongolians like himself who may, but most likely may NOT, have the legal status to work in the USA. Again, we're in a recession and this preference to illegal workers is unacceptable. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE and PROTEST ITS PRESENCE IN THE COMMUNITY."
Much bigger and brighter than the Pennsylvania Avenue store! A really nice store to browse and shop in. So glad to have you in the neighborhood.
