I decided to try this salon based on the reviews posted here. I've been to a Dominican salon in DC before and I was NOT pleased. Needles to say, based on the reviews posted here I decided to give this salon a try. I could not be happier. I went in at around 3:30 p.m. (today, 11-6-09) and was out by about 5:20 p.m. (I must have literally walked right past the person who posted the last comment ;-) ). The stylist all seem to be really nice. One girl washed and rolled my hair, and another blew it out and pin curled it. The receptionist also helped by taking out the rollers. I haven't had a relaxer in a while and my hair was VERY coarse. Also, my hair is somewhat short (a little longer than chin length). I was able to sneak a few peeks in the mirror while my hair was being straightened and it looked very straight. I was shocked. Even now when I look at my edges and feel my "kitchen", it looks and feels as if I've had a relaxer. I've never had pin curls before and actually had to ask another customer what pin curls were (basically my hair was parted into sections, flat ironed and then rolled under and secured using a bobby pin). I can't wait until tomorrow to see what happens when I take out the pins.
I also paid a total of $31. $30 for the wash and roller set-$1 for the pin curls.
I made the decision to go natural 2 weeks ago, and I plan to stick with my decision by visiting this salon twice a month.
Beware- the hand-held dryers that they use to straighten your hair are VERY VERY VERY VERY hot. I jumped a few times. Ha ha
Absolutely worth the wait!! I haven't had a perm in 16 months and they get my hair bone straight. I feel like I could do a Pantene commerical when Carmen finishes with me. You will not be disappointed. Since I found this spot, I don't think I will be getting a perm again!
I went on Sat 5/16 was in at 7am and out by 9:45am, paid $36, roller wrap, with deep conditioner... great price, great job, gets really crowed, after 8am. Will recommend to anyone..... I have not had a perm in 6 weeks, you could never tell and today is monday and my hair still looks great, with a lot of body... :) Pleasently suprised !!!!!

I arrived at this salon and when I walked in I was greeted by a thick cloud of smoke and the smell of hair. ( Yes, I stayed) Anyway, I am currently growing out my perm since August of this year. My Afro American hair is coarse and medium thin. I requested that my hair be wash/rollerset/roundrollerbrush blow dry and their final step is to flat iron the hair. If you are sensitive to extremely high heat, this is not the place for you. I am generally not sensitive to the heat of a blow dryer but I must say that I was pulling away from the blow dryer a few times. My hair came out straight at the roots and silkey. This was my first time at a Dominican Salon and I must say no one has every had my hair this straight. I am a little concern about the high heat used and not sure how much damage it would do to my hair, but I generally will only go about once to twice a month. I was charged $31.00 for my hair and after reading Akeembra's post on this site I realized I was charged a dollar ($1) for pin curls and I did not get pin curls. I only had my hair wrapped with no pins as my hair length is short (just above my chin). I will pay attention to that the next time. I was also disappointed because I purchased the Silicon Hair Treatment Mix from my stylist Vicky for $22.00 for a 16 oz jar. When I returned home I google to find more information on this product and low and behold this product was selling for $8.99 for a 16 oz jar. The highest price I found for this product on the internet was $9.99. I know Salons generally upcharge the prices of their products but geez a $13.00 up charge, that is a lot. I guess I was so happy about the way my hair came out that I would have brought anything she said. One thing for sure I will not purchased any products from this Salon unless I check the prices beforehand. The other thing is I did not see any licenses on the walls or on the Stylist work area. I am not saying the Sylist are not license since I really do not know, just commenting on the fact that I did not see any. On Sunday, this Salon was way beyond crowded so make sure you come early. If you want an extreme style or lots of curls this is not the place for you. But if you want bouncing and behaveing hair with straight roots and some shine, I say hands down you cannot beat this salon. The prices are very reasonable and I really hope they do not go up on their prices. I will go back again!
