The Chickadee Bed and Breakfast is located on a residential road comfortably away from the busy Route 1 shopping district of Kittery, Me, but it is conveniently close to all of the outlet stores. We stayed at this B&B in mid April 2008 for three nights and we highly recommend it. Our hosts were Brenda and Walter. Friendly and down-to-earth, they have lived in their lovely colonial home for 40 yrs, according to Brenda, and decided to share it with travelers about five years ago. They reside in the back addition and their original home is for the guests; they have four guest rooms each with a private bath, a parlour, dining room, and a good size front porch.
Brenda and Walter welcomed us with warmth, the minute we arrived and Brenda was always helpful with suggestions and advice when needed about the area. She gave us coupons for local restaurants, which included a $10 discount coupon for Warren's Restaurant.
The inn is cozy, comfortable, and very clean. It has old fashioned charm without feeling like you are staying in a museum. An "anytime" coffee, cocoa, and tea station is set up in the dining room for guests, as well as a mini-fridge in the parlour with soda, water, beer, and wine. There was always a carafe w/ ice water in our room, along with chocolates and fresh flowers. We were also provided with plush robes. Brenda offered us use of the jacuzzi (avail in fall/winter/spring) and there is a pool for summer use.
Walter is a great cook and made us filling breakfasts every morning which featured a daily fruit dish. During our stay we ate cinn. rolls, huge blueberry muffins, cranberry nut bread, eggs & bacon, savory quiche, a french toast bake w/ maple syrup, toast, english muffins and even homemade baked beans! Every morning we left the table content w/ full bellies to start the day. All fresh, and homemade by Walter and served efficiently by Brenda.
They always made sure we were comfortable, but did not intrude on our relaxation. They own some toy-sized dogs, fyi for those w/ allergies, but we were not disturbed. If you plan on staying during a heatwave inquire if there is A/C, we did not stay during a hot time, so we have no info on it. We would stay there again without hesitation. Local attractions include Kittery, York beach, Ogunquit and Portsmouth, NH.
