J Gumbos

This place has a great staff and excellent food at reasonable prices. They let you try a samples if you're afraid that something will be too spicy. They update the menu with new specials so you don't get in a same-ol' ordering funk.

Even better, they have been in business at the Central Station Shopping Center for well over a year and they are still as eager to please and attentive as the day they first opened their doors.

The service was excellent and friendly, but the "gumbo" was absolutely horrible. The gumbo base was very bitter without much flavor. It took alot of guts for me to finish my bowl, as I wasn't going to waste a $7.00 bowl of gumbo. I enjoy Captain D seafood gumbo more than this. It did come in a nice portion, I loved the texture of the rice, and I enjoyed the hot garlic bread, but the lack of meat was very disappointing. C'mon J. Gumbo cooks, meat makes the gumbo, especially Seafood Gumbo! I could count the number of shrimp in my bowl with one hand. This was possibly the worst gumbo I have ever tasted, and I have tasted many pots of gumbo.
