| About: | When the winning run from a neighborhood baseball game shattered the front window of their newly purchased tavern, Mary and Vincent Grittani decided to name their establishment Home Run Inn. That was 1923. From then, until the late 1940's, their business remained a small neighborhood bar where Vincent served the drinks while Mary prepared the noon meals. In 1942, a fellow named Nick Perrino married Loretta Grittani. Like the rest of the thousands of World War II soldiers, returning to civilian life, Nick was searching for a way to support his family. So in 1947, Nick formed a partnership with his mother-in-law Mary Grittani, and together they developed the recipe for Home Run Inn pizza as we know it today. In response to the growing demand for the great taste of Home Run Inn pizzas the family introduced frozen pizza to the Chicagoland area in the late 1950's. Over the decades expansion continued as the family opened new Home Run Inn restaurants and carry out locations. Then, in 1987, Home Run Inn built its 1st USDA manufacturing facility to keep up with the ever-increasing demand of its legendary pizza, while staying true to the original family pizza recipe. Today, Home Run Inn Pizza continues to be a family owned and operated establishment with 7 restaurant locations and frozen pizza in over 20 states! The pizza is still made according to the original family recipe created in 1947 using only the highest quality ingredients. Delicious because of the one of a kind crust, perfectly balanced with a zesty tomato sauce and loaded with an abundance of cheese and toppings, nothing compares to a Home Run Inn all natural pizza. |

I've been eating this pizza since I was a little boy at the original location, that was in the 70's. I have tried a number of locations since and have to say they just dont have it here. The crust is way off,and the sauce dont seem right.I believe its the people in the kitchen but someone isn't paying attention to quality control. With a rep to keep this place is turning alot of fans away and I know this cause everyone I know will either go somewhere else or to Darien. Hope they straighten up.
Tonight we decided to go to Home Run Inn in Bolingbrook. Since we were bringing one of our young sons with we decided to call ahead to have the pizza waiting for us. We were told the pizza would be put in the minute we sat down but not before due to issues with past customers not showing up, etc. Made sense so we continued on and figured it would save at least 10-15 mins anyway...wrong. It took as long or longer. Our server pretty much confirmed that the story was all nonsense about putting the pizza in right away. Then the really disappointing part of the night-the pizza. I am a HUGE fan of HRI and order it and ship it for friends all over the country. But there is something not right about the recepie at this location. Nothing other than the look of the pizza was what a HRI pizza should be. The crust, the cheese, nothing. Hopefully it was just a bad night but I will not make the drive again. Instead I will revisit the 31st location and hope to eat the traditional pizza we love. After that I will probably give up and stick with Giordanos or even Beggars which is becoming a favorite.
I waited and watched it being built. I could not wait to go there as Blingbrook is seriously lacking in eat-in pizzarias. I'll admit, the first time I went there I was not impressed, but it must have been situation as every time i've been there since has been great. Their diced tomatoes are always so fresh and tasty. I want to try the pasta but can't not get the pizza. it's so stomach-stuffing good.
