My husband and I were on the island the weekend of a torrential rain and decided to do dinner at AJ's. We did not have a reservation but were seated quickly. Our waitress was quite friendly and efficient. We were allowed to order from the lite fare menu which I did, some delicious jumbo fried shrimp. My husband had one of the specials, grill tuna, and he said it was some of the best he had ever had. Our salads were very fresh and the bread delicious. We will come again when we are visiting the island.
I was a little worried when we walked up to the restaurant, we could hear the some bad kareoke or something trying to sing in the bar. However the once seated you could not hear anything from the bar and the atmosphere was quite nice. They had an excellent menu with some interesting dishes. We had oysters in a champagne sauce (pasta dish) and a blue crab and prosciutto dish. Both were delicious. I love to eat where the chef makes things I would never dream of. These were the best oysters I have ever had. The crab meat was great, certainly fresh and flavorful, and the prosciutto wasn't a cheap version a expected for the price we were paying. Very reasonable prices for what we got. The service could have been better, it wasn't bad, I can honestly say the waiter was trying and doing pretty well, just not anything to write home about. Go to AJ's if you like being pleasantly surprised by good food prepared in ways you haven't had it before. If you don't like trying something new, you might thing twice. As for me, I'll be going back to AJ's.
nasty food, nasty waitstaff, expensive prices and weird combinations, place is tiny and tries to be fancy
