Very nice atmosphere, the chef-owner and his wife are very nice and want to make sure you had a good meal. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings. They seemed to have a very good wine selection, but I opted to try a few different beers they had that were from Italy, that I had never seen anywhere else.
The food was really, really good, but it is kind of pricey. You pay for quality not quanitity here, which is fine by me-but-for what I paid ($24) for my meal, they could have used a little more pasta-I had so much sauce that I had a lot of sauce left, even though I tried to put as much on each bite as I could! Afterall, the cheap part of the dish is the pasta.

Personally, I wish Bangor had an "in-between" Italian restaurant. Something with better food than the crap at Olive Garden but priced about the same or slightly more. I liked Massimo's a lot, but simply can't afford to pay over $100 for dinner for 2 all the time.

We went because we had heard from a friend that it was a good place, and had some people visiting. We never ended up eating the meals we ordered due to the rude attitude and inflated ego of the chef and staff. One person in our group has a medical condition that causes dietary restrictions, so she asked if the pasta could be made without some of the ingredients and she was told emphatically "NO". She ended up ordering another dish and asking for it without the sides as she could not eat them. Another person in our group asked if some onions could be added to a salad. A little after we ordered the manager came over to ask a bit rudely if we had a problem, and we explained again that the one person in our group, simply for medical reasons, could not eat some things. After the salads were brought out, the one person in our group asked again for onions, since they had been forgotten, and the waitress said "No". Then the chef came out and rudely said they were not part of his recipe (for salad?) and took our salads away and said he would not cook for us because he was from Rome and was not changing anything. We tried to speak with the manager and received a similarly rude response. Absolutely unreal attitudes. The only thing we did eat was the bread and olive oil, which quite frankly I could have had better from my own home (yes, I am Italian, and still have family there). The olive oil was below par,and the bread was not the good crusty Italian bread that I saw mentioned. It was plain multi-grain I could have gotten from Shaw's or Hanaford. I will not go there again and would not recommend it.

Best italian food in Maine. I grew up in Boston with italian parents and missed the hard crust bread that was served with almost every meal. The bread was top notch along with the meal. I would put this resturaunt up there with the best that the Ballagio or Venician have to offer in Las Vegas. The staff is professional and eager to offer a great dining experience. Prices are a little high for the Bangor area. Remember though, you get what you pay for and Massimo's is worth it!! Also dress is neat casual. My wife and I went to Massimo's at the spur of the moment and felt a little out of place with our sloppy casual!!
