We ate at Gloria's on a Saturday night and got two scoops of gelato, the chocolate covered strawberry and mango.
Pros:
-REAL, fresh fruit enhanced the texture and flavor of the dessert
-The restaurant itself is so authentic that the feeling is just that of a Florentine ristorante.
-GREAT service
-Presentation was subtle with authentic ice cream bowl and metal gelato spoons with garnish to add some excitement.
-BONUS: delicious wafer given with dessert
-Reasonably priced (Compared to Maestros)
Cons:
-Smaller selection of gelato flavors, but desserts over-all very authentic and offer a wide selection
-Creative flavors, some too different for all to enjoy
-Not quite as generous with their scoops (compared, once again, to Maestros)
On a scale of 30 with the categories being flavor, ambience, service, price, selection, and creativity, Gloria's receives a 25, compared to a 20.5 given to Maestros. (See review for Maestros)
We ate at Gloria's on our last trip to Provo. We had lunch there on Monday. It was so fabulous we went back for lunch on Wednesday. The "corner spaghetti joint decor" was deceiving. The food was freshly prepared and is some of the best Italian I have had anywhere in the world (including Italy). The pastas were fresh and light and the homemade sauces were superb. Both lasagnas (ragu and spinach) seemed to have been made with angels' wings and melted in the mouth. The gnocchi was the lightest we have ever had. The pesto and the tortellini were also delicious. We started with bruscetta and were amazed by the freshness of the tomatoes drizzled in a perfect olive oil and balsamic vinegar glaze. The salads were plain but the dressings were homemade and delicious. Whatever you do, save room for dessert. we tried four or five of the Italian cakes and pastries "family style" and each one seemed more divine than the last. My brother, who lived in Italy for two years, was with us and he agreed that it was the most authentic, delicious Italian food he had ever had. We plan to go back to Gloria's each time we visit Provo. Gloria's is a real treasure on the Utah dining scene.
If you are looking for a charming experience with fabulous food, you MUST try Gloria's Little Italy. I eat lunch there a few times a month with friends, and we are never disappointed. The dishes are simple, portions are generous, and the desserts are to die for. It's not the cheapest place in town, but I usually get 2 meals out of one entree. So in my opinion, it's worth it. Try a panini. It's not what you're used to, but you will love it!
