I recently saw the Branson Divas show on a visit to Branson, Mo. I have to say that this show was fantastic. The "Divas" are 3 women who, it appears, have been friends in the Branson area for many years. They have all worked for some pretty heavy hitters. Now they have gone out on their own to perform their show. They sing all types of music, something for everyone. And they mix it up with solos and trio performances, interspersed with some hilarious comedy. There is a wonderful patriotic tribute to women in the military, a gender that seemed to be overlooked in the other shows that I saw in the area, and also a very moving gospel segment. The country segment of the show had me rolling in the aisles with laughter.
One idea that I particularly liked was a segment that the girls called their "scrapbook". It was their life story in song and video. It brought them to a level of kinship with me that I did not get from performers in other shows. I felt like I really got to know each one of the Divas and I realized that they are real women, just like me. They aren't young cutesy showgirls, but rather women who are in their prime, with a lot of heart and talent to spare. And I liked feeling close to them.
And that brings me to, what seemed to be, the real theme of their show, which was that everyone is beautiful, no matter what their circumstances are in life. (They even had a cute, catch song about it, that I can't stop singing in my head. "I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful . . . " It was great.) And if you work really hard, you can achieve your dream, because that is what these ladies are doing, going out on a limb in a male dominated area, to be different and perform their own show, in a creative and entertaining way. And the other underlying theme of the show is that of friendship, and you can tell that these ladies are truly friends when they end the show with songs about friendship. The genuine love just shines through as they sing.
This show left me highly entertained. But it also moved me emotionally. I felt like I had made 3 new friends in Branson and I had to give each one of the ladies a hug as I left the theater. I highly recommend the Branson Divas show to anyone who wants to have their spirits lifted, or just see a great, different type show, men or women. The men will admire the Divas entertaining value. And they don't have to worry about any menopause jokes or man bashing, because that is not what this show is about. Also, there is enough comedy and musical variety that kids of all ages will love the show too. If you are in Branson, don't miss it.
