The Chinese New Year Celebration in Carlisle, now in its fourth year,
has grown more inclusive and more wonderful with each passing year.
Chiao Bin Huang - producer, director, choreographer, teacher, dancer,
heart and soul of the celebration - has created a festival atmosphere
for this event that draws a standing room only audience in the
Carlisle Public School's Corey Auditorium. For a minimal ticket
price - $7 for adults, $5 for children and seniors - participants are
treated to an amazing and varied buffet of Chinese food, are invited
to try their hand at arts and crafts, and then enjoy one of the
happiest and most colorful performances imaginable! Children of all
ages and cultures - and even their parents - join in singing Chinese
songs, doing traditional ribbon, lion and flag dances, and
demonstrating Chinese yo-yo and martial arts. Brightly colored
costumes and props add tremendously to the pageantry. One of the
most delightful elements of the performances is catching sight of
Chiao Bin herself, discreetly flitting from place to place,
conducting and prompting the many students in their songs and dances,
managing the microphones, starting and stopping the recordings of
traditional Chinese music accompanying the high-energy onstage
performances, encouraging the shy, and managing the minor snags to
keep everything running smoothly. Her commitment to giving every
participant the chance to shine creates a celebration not just of
talent but of diversity, and of the exuberance of life itself. And
when Chiao Bin herself dances, the audience is truly transported -
professionally trained in her native China, she moves through the
traditional dances with a grace and liquidity that is almost
magical. Throughout all the day's performances, we are not merely
impressed, but drawn into a loving and vibrant communal happening.
We depart uplifted, excited, and filled with a spirit of gratitude
and wonder - and with memories to carry us through another year.

What a wonderful team of people made this Chinese New Year Celebration event so fabulous! Chiao Bin, your leadership made all the difference. It was so
nice to see so many students performing and to see Chiao Bin dance! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
