Our car broke down on the way to San Diego. All of a sudden the thermostat light, engine and I guess all the possible lights turned on, the car started to make a noise and as we pulled off the fwy the car turned off. We were close to the Toyota Carlsbad, so we had the tow truck take us there. We got there and as the paperwork was done, there was a $99.00 estimate on the paperwork to diagnose the problem. We rented a car and waited for their call to let us know the problem. Our service adviser called in the early afternoon to tell us that there was a problem with the motor and she went into detail of the parts and labor... She asked if I accepted the estimate of $1348.00, after talking, we said ok. She did mention that they might find perhaps something else yet, so they will let us know, so we agreed. We waited and no phone call... The next day, at about 5PM I called to see the update of the car, just to find out that they had decided the repairs would be $7500.00. We are talking about a Scion XB 2004!!! Anyhow, the next morning we call to let them know that we had decided to tow the car back home, at that time, they informed us that the balance was $1348.00, the estimate approved by us. Not understanding what was going on, we questioned it and their answer was that it was the cost of coming up with an estimate to repair the car. I was frozen, almost didn't know what to say. As I argued, they dropped the price to $745.00. In my life I had had someone charge me $745.00 to tell me what is wrong with any of the cars I have owned. Maybe if it was a Ferrari, but a scion? My service adviser was NOT available to speak with the next day, neither the following day till the afternoon, and although she gave me her cell... no answer. She called me later the day we towed the car back home, due to the fact that the other service adviser didn't want to respond to the estimate given by her, at that time she claimed that she explained clearly that it was the price of the estimate, as I responded that if she had explained that, I would have NEVER agreed to pay $1,348.00 for an estimate, she was rude and didn't care in any way, she tried to be professional and said that "she was sorry" that I had miss understood! and basically hang up on me. Need to say anymore?...-

Inept. Did not understand the Recall Notice for Prius. Took over 15 minutes to research online...while I was on hold. Strongly recommend looking for another dealer. Notified Toyota Corporate.

I happen to work at a dealership, do you think that they couldve have been looking up the recall and checking parts?? It's called recall verification!! They probably wanted to make sure they were ordering the right parts for your recall! Maybe you could be more understanding with the process. Would you rather have work done slowly but correctly or fast and incorrect. Take your pick.
