We ate here for the first time tonight, after seeing the excellent reviews in both our local paper and the Star Ledger, and were definitely impressed! I personally live close to the Edison/Islen area, so I know what great, authentic Indian food is supposed to taste like. Garam Masala is definitely the real deal!! Without detailing every item we ordered, let me say that the Kolhapuri Chicken (one of their signature dishes) was outstanding! I hate when Asian restaurants tone down the heat factor in their dishes because they figure American palates can't handle it, but Garam Masala doesn't, so if you aren't a true hot food lover, you'd better order your food "mild". I'm a true hot-head, and ordered the dish extra spicy, and it definitely was. My girlfriend can't handle the amount of heat I can (yet can hold her own and definitely handle more that most people) and ordered her Cashew Chicken "medium", and it was almost too much heat for her, so err on the safe side if you're not sure what you can take. The service was exceptional, especially for an Indian restaurant, where the service is usually kind of stuffy. The menu is also HUGE, especially if you're a vegetarian, with a lot of dishes you wouldn't necessarily find in a typical Indian place. Overall I consider Garam Masala a PHENOMENAL find and we can't wait to go back. A gem in Morris County, IMO.
My husband and I are non-vegetarians, living in Sussex County, and we have scoured northern NJ trying to find an Indian restaurant that we could call "The Best", Garam Masala is it!! We have tried others such as Cloves, Chand Palace, Salaam Namaste, The Clay Oven...none of them come close to the exceptional flavor and quality of the food that comes out of this kitchen. The restaurant is dim and cozy, it is decorated in modern decor, and the staff is gracious and welcoming. They offer a daily lunch buffet from 11:30-3:30, and the price is extremely reasonable. My husband and I have been there about six times since February, and we will continue to make frequent visits, because this is "The Best" Indian Food around!
Horrible Experience. I took all my vegetarian friends to this restaurant looking good reviews at its web-site. We got BONE in the Vegetarian food. I am warning Vegetarians, Please don't go here. Even the people who are eating non-vegetarian food it may possible they may serve you beef instead of chicken. Ambience is so shabby and dark you wonât even realize.
If I forget above incident and just to review the food, Food is very spicy. They put lots of spices that normal American can sweat in AC. Their chicken and Lamb are not fresh.

Yourself and "Neelam" below are obviously the same person and have some problem with this restaurant, since these are the only reviews you have ever written. Everyone should disregard both of these, because the food here is absolutely the best Indian I've had outside of Edison..by far!
