I took a carload of nice clothing in on July 2, 2011 and when I never got a check the next month I called to find out what was happening. First I was told that I only brought some items in June and the check was less than $5 so I would have to come pick it up. I did take a load in June, but it was a much smaller load than the one in July. I was told that most of my items from June had been donated to charity because they were "too worn or out of style" and that I hadn't taken anything else in.
I figured out when I dropped the big load off and called back. I spoke to the owner, Allyson. She told me they processed clothes from me on July 6 and that all of my items had been donated because they were "too worn or out of style."
It's impossible that everything I took in was unsaleable. There were many classic items, some brand new and I went through everything very carefully, taking out anything that looked worn or had spots before hanging it to take to Then & Now.
I have been using this store to sell my clothes for many years and just in the last couple of years they have not been giving much cash return. I wonder if someone else bought the store recently?
I will be filing with the BBB.
How can this business have two stars when 3 out of four have given it one star?
I got the contract out that I signed for Then & Now in 2005 and I see how they can do what they are doing. That doesn't make it right. It does make it impossible to file a complaint with the BBB though.
Most shops meet with the consignors and tell them face to face what they will and won't accept. They also tell them exactly who their donations go to. Thank goodness I've moved and I have other options now besides T & N .
Same thing happended to me. i gave them 51 items of clothing (two of which were armani suits) and some still with tags on it. I never saw my clothes on the racks and when asked they said it was at their discretion what went to teh floor. NOTHING of mine out of 51 pieces managed to make it to the floor.
If you want to give away your clothes for free, this is the place to go....I gave them some beautiful evening wear clothes to sell, which never happend, I looked through out the store for any of the items I gave them to sell, saw none of my items on the floor for sale, I feel like they took my clothes for themselves and not for sale, totally ripped off. I spoke with the manager and she told me that if she didn't feel like the items would sell, they were donated to a local shelter/church. I gave them some absolute beautiful dresses, some that still had the tag on it, her reason for not putting these clothes on the sales floor was that she didn't feel that they would sell, OMG, I feel like I was ripped off, what she did with my dresses obviously were for herself, not customers. I will report them to the BBB!
