I love Kids College! Miss Shanel has found some unique ways to keep the kids engaged with learning - including the Music Lady on Wednesdays, entertaining crafts and special events. As for this previous review about an old building and her kid getting sick from daycare: Kids spread germs like crazy - that's just the way it is and it's a problem every daycare has. I know of a local, prestigious daycare in which a toddler received recurring staph infections! The teachers are very engaged with the kids. In fact, I often feel like my son is the center of their attention, when I know that's not true. He's 2 years old and can say more words - recite the ABCs and count - than the toddler down the street from me. Don't listen to this disgruntled parent.

When it comes to finding childcare for my son, I am very cautious. I cried the first day I brought him to Kids College, but I started noticing in the first week that he was enunciating more clearly! And he looooves his teachers and the other staff. They seem to really care about the kids; they even know each child's name and parent's name (which I find amazing). Shanel Riddle is the owner/operator and she does an extraordinary job creating a special and safe place for my son. And that's worth every penny!

Find another place for your child to attend daycare. The staff is marginal and most of the teachers seem disengaged with the kids. The facility is old and smells that way when you walk in the door. There are restrictions on when you have to have your child dropped off, supposedly because children are "already engaged in the daily routines". In reality this is so Kids College can cut staff in the afternoon, meeting only the minimal state requirements. My child was constantly shuffled between rooms because of staffing issues. The daycare is frequently closed for "holidays" that most professionals don't have off such as Martin Luther King and Good Friday and you are of course charged for all those days (they are supposedly "included" in the price). Also, they are also closed for an entire week between Christmas and New Years. This isn't even including all the days you will be home with you sick child. My child was out for an entire week and he even had to go to the hospital because of an infection from daycare. Bottom line, there are other great daycares in the area, take your child somewhere else, we did and we are much happier. Response to Kids College Comments: Do you honestly think that it is possible that my child missed an entire week of daycare without the school even noticing??? I will give them enough credit to say they at least noticed he was gone. Of course they knew about the infection as it required special care after returning to daycare. I purposely made this review anonymous as this is a very small town, but believe me when I tell you I had more than one discussion with the director regarding these issues. Her primary response was that it was me with the issues, not the school. Within a week of me removing my child from the facility I recognized another child from Kids College at our new daycare. This mother also had similar complaints including that her child was frequently sent home sick. Out of the three daycares my child has attended (one before we moved to the area and the new daycare he attends now), I have never had any other problems.

If a child is being sent home sick from daycare, obviously Kids College is trying to keep their facility as free from germs as possible.

Kids College would like to comment that we are sorry to hear a parent was unhappy with our care - especially in such an anonomous way. We have an open door policy and would've been happy to rectify any issues/misconceptions a parent may have. We do have an open door policy and unfortunately need to rely on parents' willingness to communicate in order to ensure we meet all their expectations. To address some of the claims -we stick to stringent ratios as laid out by the state. Children who are picked up closer to our closing time are combined into one classroom as it makes no sense to have 5 teachers in 5 classrooms with one child in each class. When we combine at the end of the day, infants remain together and 2 - 5 year olds remain combined seperately. We do indeed have a policy where children need to be dropped off by 9:30am. We have a very educational program and this is when our circle time, group discussions and educational sessions start. It is very disruptive to both the teachers and children when parents are unable to bring their children on time, however parents are welcome to stop by at any time to observe their children through our observation windows in each classroom. We do close on Martin Luther King and Good Friday but are open on other days such as Columbus Day. A full detailed list is provided to all parents upon enrollment. Parents also only pay 1/2 price for the week of Christmas and are entitled to claim this week of 1/2 price tuition any time of the year. We were never made aware of any child being hospitilized. We have air purifiers and filtration systems in our toddler and infant rooms that have prevented most children from getting ill. However, we are happy to hear that you have found alternative care and wish you and your child the best of luck in future. We invite any prospective parents to pay a visit and do a tour of our beautiful facility - come see for yourself!
