Love this little restaurant. Went Friday 1-23-09, had Potsticker appetizer, Red Curry w/seafood, banana dessert in spring roll wrap with coconut and honey. Absolutely delicious. Hot and spicy. Gorgeous presentation. Relaxing time as food is prepared just for you and takes a little longer, which was just fine. Chef knows what she is doing! Paenang was filled with lots of tender (not overcooked or chewy) seafood. Owners are informative, friendly, and knowledgeable. I prefer them over Tong's Thai where we've gone often before find Siam's. If you go at lunch, be prepared to wait as it is right across the street from Ft. Sam. Try them at night too.
We just moved here from Washington DC, which has an overwhelming number of really good Thai restaurants, and I must say that Siam Thai could compete with any of them in taste and authenticity. Furthermore, Siam Thai literally trounces the local competition here in San Antonio. I was drinking the sauce from my dish it was so delectable.
Don't expect the most amazing decor or the nicest seats and tables, but you can expect to have an amazing meal made by a 5th generation (that's what the menu says at least) Thai chef, plus the Thailand travel guides at every table a nice little touch.
Also, the food is all made fresh to order and since it is only the chef making the meals in the kitchen, the wait can obviously be longer than the standard (and in my opinion obnoxious) restaurant. It is well worth the wait, besides sometimes it's a good thing to actually relax and have nice conversation while waiting for such excellent food.
