Eating at Chef Roland's tonight was surreal. When I sat down I was ignored for 10 minutes. Then Roland came out and asked me if I had a lot of patience! I said yes. I am not sure if he was sick or drunk. He screamed to every patron that the restaurant was busy tonight and that he was taking a break. He literally sat down in the middle of the restaurant and had a beer! He told the one and only waitress to take a 10 minute break! A dad and his teenage daughter came in. After being ignored for 20 minutes they quietly left. Somehow Roland knew that someone had left and he came in and asked everyone in the restaurant if someone had just left. He also came around and pretty much forced everyone to have desert. Chef Roland was swearing and at one time taking some pills in the middle of the restaurant for everyone to see! If Ionesco had been with me he would have gotten material for a play. I cannot imagine this restaurant surviving even another week. Strangely, in line with being my weirdest restaurant experience ever, the jambalaya and the blackened cat fish was excellent, but the service, the behavior of Chef Roland and the ambiance makes this a restaurant experience that I will always remember although I wish I could just forget it.
Went there last night. After having lived down south it has been hard to find BBQ to any good standards in Boise but this place is great. So are the hushpuppies, sweet tea, beans and rice and the desert peach cobbler. Yum! The chef is from Louisiana. I have lived from Florida to Texas and I can say Chef Roland knows his southern cooking.
Ate there yesterday, had the blackened catfish on a bed of rice with a side of jambalaya and green beans. The best food I have had in Boise in quite a while, while a bit spendy it was worth every penny!
