The four of us were nervous about getting a table upstairs on a Regatta weekend, a very busy time in Charleston. We could hardly wedge into the large parking lot. Turns out the place to be was downstairs. We were the only customers on the upper level and quickly understood why. The setting is nice, but the prices are out of sight for marginally "gourmet" fare. Service was extremely slow despite our being the only people there. The food was cold. The wait staff hung out in a corner sitting on their haunches in loud, casual conversation then came over to "put on airs" when serving. Three ounces of wine was served in 12 ounce wine glasses at the price of a bottle. The weather was perfect and the busy river view awesome.
Upper level restaurant cuisine was good but on the pricy side. The lower level has the best burgers and cold beer in Charleston. The fries are awesome and the salads are great. ALso the best atmosphere for enjoying friends if the weather is great to sit outside. Go early gets crowded quickly. Newest hot spot for Charleston.
Not great, way too expensive.
We were not all that impressed with our recent visit to The Barge in Charleston. Food was OK at best. The $7 lobster bisque was a bowl of liquid salt, the $9 duck/pear/walnut salad had duck as tough as shoe leather on a greens mix that obviously was shook out of a plastic bag and was cold, the ribeye with sauce was an OK cut at best, NOT worth $35, the salmon was good but typical and the creme brulee desert was decent but boring and plain. Dinner, an appetizer, a few wines and desert was about $150 for two. The food did not warrant such cost. Better idea to sit outside on the pier and order from their bar menu.
