If you want to entice all your senses, make sure you make time for the Black River Cafe!
Let's face it: looks are the first thing people notice, and you won't be disappointed with the high tin ceilings and exposed brick walls laden with local photos and paintings. Next the fabulous mix of folk/jazz music sets the relaxed mood as the aromas of the fresh foods artfully displayed on your plate delight your eyes. The unbelievable mixtures of culinary expertise and fresh local produce are to die for, as the friendly and knowledgeable wait staff allow you to linger and enjoy your meal. This is a must if you are in the Port Huron area, especially before the word gets out and the upcoming new basement bar/entertainment/lounge opens within the next month.
Ordering off the blackboard specials, I shared the blackened trout stacked salad to start (WOW), my lamb with fresh ratatouille was exquisite and the white chocolate cashew cranberry and orange cake was unbelievable! This was my second visit and I will be back...it is well worth the drive from South eastern Ontario
IF there is one restaurant not to miss in port huron ........this is the one.
Take advantage before the word gets out.
Looking for Delicious food, great service and atmosphere AND to top it off........prices that can't be beat? Look no further.
We've been here twice and we've never been disappointed.
Next visit will be for the breakfast menu too.
Our server was friendly and very excited to answer all of our questions about the specialties on the menu. We ordered from the chalkboard, which lists the weekly specials that are not on the regular menu. I ate buffalo meatloaf . The meatloaf was wrapped in bacon, very moist and tender. It was served with corn polenta, which had a strange texture, and fresh asparagus. Portion sizes were decent, I took some leftovers home in a box. They had music playing in the background, I think it was some soft jazz music, nice for dinner conversations. Overall it is an interesting place, very good value for the money and eclectic menu items. We will definitely try this place again! Server also told us they should be getting a liquor license within the next 6-8 weeks and they will be opening a downstairs "speakeasy" type bar.
