Was at Holmes plate this week for the first time. Thought it was over priced. Had a shrimp fahita....lots of veggies, 4 shrimp for a special price of 11 dollars???? Got food to go! When I got home it was only half there.Would not recommend it to anyone.
We just returned from a beautiful weekend in Corning, NY where we enjoyed a fabulous meal and evening at Holmes Plate on Market Street. We tried this restaurant for the first time last summer on our annual trek to Camp and have decided to come back when passing through. This weekend we tried wings, salads, Tomato jack soup all of which were awesome. Stand-outs were the slow roasted Sirloin, the Alaskan Char which were absolutely piping hot and delicious - so much better than the tepid food we have become accustomed to eating when dining out. Most unique were the nachos - not the standard chip but baked tortillas. AND - HOMEMADE DESSERTS - you can taste the difference!
And, a bonus. Live music this year, a great blues band...
We plan to continue to stop here when passing through Corning - the food is stand out and there is always something new to try - Did I mention the ribs? We had them last year and pre-ordered a bunch to bring home!
*UPDATE* Yet another satisfying meal had yesterday, best ribs to date at this joint... but no additional 'slaw or beans... Our favorite waitress M.I.A. too. Will return for both.
Not very often I find myself writing a restaurant review, but this is one establishment I must say something about. I have eaten at that this place more than a few times. Most of the food is tasty. I've never gone wrong with a meal here. Relaxed atmosphere. But I've got to say something about the ribs. I love ribs. Though not the best, these are fairly close to being in the conversation of some of the better racks around; and will certainly do as there aren't many places in Corning that one can satisfy their Jones for some ribs. My problem is with the size of the side dishes that accompanies the ribs. I know the economy is in a bind at the moment, but is it going to break Brendan's bottom line to throw down some extra beans and coleslaw? I mean, the sides are served in what looks like sample cups from Sam's club. And if Sam's were giving out samples of Baked Beans and Slaw they would give more than you get with your meal at the Plate. Really... I'm talking beans and 'slaw.
As I mentioned, my wife and I have eaten here quite a few times. Service is always good, but I would like to mention a new body who served us. Hanna, I think was her name. Ask for her when you're seated. She is spot on with her service. Her attention to detail was timely and not overbearing. She was polite, spoke well to the table, and listen attentively when we spoke. I'm guessing Brendan pays her in proportion to the amount of beans and 'slaw I get with my ribs... not much. You'll enjoy her table service.
Over all the meal was very good, Just need more sides with my ribs.
