Caliendo's is run by the owners of the former Winfield House which was located across the street from where Caliendo's now resides. Besides a few more decorations and a newer look, Caliendo's bar suffers from the same problem the WH bar did: absolutely abysmal service and an unfriendly clientele. The servers act as if they have no time for you and that they are doing you a favor by getting you drinks. Most of the regulars that frequent the establishment are very much like a high school clique that will ridicule and mock other patrons for not being "regulars". All in all, it is a rather unfriendly atmosphere within the bar area (It has been alleged a man that was beaten there by customers and staff later died the same night from wounds he sustained, though to my knowledge, no charges were filed). I go to a bar to have fun and socialize, not to listen to 46 year olds act like pre-teens and catch attitude from bartenders who are, by far, nothing to write home about. I also have no interest in being ganged up on and beaten by a pack of drunken animals.
I myself have never tasted any of their food items or sat in their restaurant, so I cannot comment on these aspect of the business. I would suggest that if you plan on eating any of their food, order it to go.
Overview:
Location: Good - Right in Downtown Winfield
Atmosphere: Poor - The bar itself looks nice, but most of the clientele will treat you in an unfriendly and sometimes hostile manner.
Service: Awful - 99% of the staff is unfriendly and inhospitable. If you go, plan on waiting for drinks if there is even the slightest crowd.
Food: N/A - I have never eaten there (though I must admit that I have heard good things about their food).
Price: Average - They are competitive with other bars.
Overall: Poor - My advice, cross the street and go to John's. The bar is a total dive, but you'll get faster service with a better attitude (and a few less lumps on the noggin!).
