On about March 2001, I lost my political asylum case from the Immigration judge and I wasn't able to pursue my appeals with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). At that time, my New York, New York attorney declined to appeal my case with the BIA because he felt my case and testimony were weak and/or implausible and any appeal will be a waste of time and scarce resources. Even, I consulted other lawyers and begged them to take my case for free and/or nominal fee but after reviewing my case circumstances and transcripts, they refused to do so.
But one of those attorneys referred me to Jimmy Johnson and his Jimed Johnson legal services for legal help. At first, I was reluctant to do so because he was not a lawyer, but an immigration consultant and legal contractor. However, when I summed up the courage to meet him, I was impressed by the quality of his legal advice and how to go ahead with my case on appeal. Frankly, Mr. Johnson took my political situation as a challenge on his ability to solve problems and/or to work under stress. He immediately prepared a Notice of Appeal on the Executive Office for Immigration Review form (EOIR-26) and timely filed and served with the BIA and office of the Immigration Service's District Counsel.
Within a short time, the BIA sent my transcript of record to me and I forwarded it to him. He then followed up with the preparation, filing, and serving of appeal brief and memorandum of law in a timely manner with all concerned parties. By November 2002, the BIA gave decision on my case appeal and granted my immigration relief Asylum and withholding of removal. The office of Mr. Jimed Johnson followed up my case by helping me to file and obtain I-102 Application to receive/replace I-94 Nonimmigrant Arrival-Departure Record, I-765 Application for Employment Authorization Document, I-131 Application for Travel Document/Reentry Permit, I-730 Refugee/Asylee Relative Petitions for my Wife and children, I-485 Application for Permanent Residence or Adjustment of status, and N-400 Application for Naturalization to become a U.S. Citizen. I don't know what would have happen to me and my family in Guyana had it not been the help I received from this little unknown Jimmy Johnson.
