ONCE THEY GET YOUR BUSINESS, THE "MANAGER" DOESN'T REALLY CARE! When I first discovered the Point Richmond Storage facility, I was pleased. I was lucky enough to talk to one of the owners who was very accommodating. The reason I chose to move my property there was because of a couple of agreements he made with me. That was the last I saw of him, and the "manager" did not choose to honor the agreements the owner made.

First, he was supposed to call me the minute they got their truck in so I could use their "free" truck. The manager didn't bother to call me when it came in. I drove over one day to find out what was keeping the truck, and it had been sitting there since just a couple days after I signed my agreement. Because of his neglect, I had to pay $97 extra dollars to leave my property where it was.

Then... one of the things I had asked for was the first month free, as many storage places offer. That was agreed upon, too. But in just 2 weeks I received a bill and then a week later, a threat that I would be charged a late fee if I didn't pay. When I told the "manager" about the arrangement I had made with the owner, he told me he doesn't do it that way. His refusal to honor the original agreement cost me another $60!

And the "free" truck. NOT FREE! It's understandable that they would have you replace the gas, but since they charge mileage just the same as U-Haul or Ryder, the only difference is the $20 you pay to rent the truck. And when you rent one of the other trucks, you get it for 24 hours. Not so at Point Richmond Storage! And the day I went to use the "free" truck, the "manager" had to leave right at 4. So, in order not to hold him up, I went right past a gas station around the corner so that I wouldn't hold him up. I had a 5 gallon gas can in my car that I had just filled in the morning. I was going to put it into a car I couldn't start, hoping I could get it started. The "manager" wouldn't let me do that. Then I offered to pick the truck up first thing in the morning and replace the gas. He wouldn't let me do that, either! He wanted to pretend that the truck only got 8 miles per gallon, instead of the 12 I was told. So, even though the $5 he cheated me out of isn't that much, it's the principle (or lack of it) that matters.

They also do the little trick where the tank isn't full when you pick it up, it's only a little less than half, or a little less than 3/4, so when you go to replace the gas you've used, you're likely to put more in than necessary to make sure you get it right.

I have made SEVERAL REQUESTS of the manager to have the owner, Roger, give me a call so I could express my concerns to him since he was the one I made the arrangements with. I have asked him to simply forward e-mail. He defiantly refuses every time!!! He says that the owners hired him to manage the property and that's what he's doing. SO... WHEN THEIR WEBSITE SAYS THAT "the facility is directly operated by the principals", NOT SO! There are two other places within a couple of miles from there where the managers seem to understand customer service and keeping agreements; 1) Interstate Storage at 877-529-6706, and 2) Storage Pro at 510-379-5972. If I were you, I would check out one of the other places first. They are just as accommodating, and they keep their word. And Storage Pro's units are all alarmed...
