First Tracts - First and Last time to frequent this agency...

To be fair, we've listed both the good and bad (in chronological order) of the rental we stayed at this past weekend with First Tracts:

- Directions: First Tracts' directions were ambiguous and incorrect. We spent an hour searching poorly lit and unnamed roads to find the condo. We were then shocked when we found the rental unit located in an industrial warehouse complex.

- Location: The 2 bedroom condo was located literally on top of a warehouse and 25 yards across from a row of self-storage facilities. Local contractors arrived at 7 am to perform their duties - move wood, move the JLG crane inside, and various tasks. We spoke with them briefly and they were very nice to talk to and replied that they would be working both Saturday and Sunday.

- Condition of condo: The condo was new and nicer inside than we expected, considering the industrial location. The wood details were newly stained and the appliances were brand new.

- Furniture & Beds: The furnishings seemed old and were mismatched. Both mattresses were cement hard.

- Hot water and heat worked very well.

- Flies: Evidently, the big black flies from the workshop below were crafty enough to make their way into our bedroom. I first noticed this when I woke up to buzzing at 2am. From there, my husband and I killed 12-13 flies over the course of 3 nights. I shouldn't have to say how gross this is...

- Lights went out: Our circuit breaker was connected to the warehouse below and the heavy amperage machinery tripped the breaker servicing our room. We lost power and had to find the breaker box to fix it ourselves.

- Dirty Linens: We found washcloths that still had lipstick and mascara from some previous user.

- Phone: The land line was not working when we arrived. Our cell phone coverage was non-existent in the area, so this would have been our only form of emergency communication.

- Lack of interest or help from First Tracts staff. When we stopped by the Realty office to bring up some of the issues, Jerry Holder said he had forgotten to turn on our phone line, but would take care of it. My husband then requested a bag of salt for the steep icy staircase and Mr. Holder had the 37 steps that lead to the condo's entrance salted. He waved off all other issues (flies, makeup on washcloth, etc.) and began complaining to us about the outdated furnishings himself! Mr. Holder offered no consideration and promptly dismissed us with no reconciliation.

- Price: First Tracts charged us $300 a night for this 2 bedroom condo that is 5 miles from Snowshoe mountain. Other condos of similar size closer to the mountain and in nicer areas were going for $150-250 a night. We were not given a proper description of this condo and would obviously not have rented it, if we had been offered photos or an accurate description of the location of this rental unit.

Final Thoughts - We can't trust First Tracts and will never work with this company again.
