| About: | Michael Garozzo and Charlie Gitto Jr. are cousins and life-long friends who grew up together in the Saint Louis Italian neighborhood known as The Hill. As young men, Mike and Charlie worked in various St. Louis restaurants, both dreaming of opening a place of their own in the future. Charlie Gitto's "On the Hill" opened in 1981, in a landmark two -story brick building that was once the home of Angelo's (whose kitchen is responsible for the birth of the Saint Louis favorite Toasted Ravioli). The restaurant has been featured in publications such as Food and Wine, USA Today, Southern Living, Midwest Living, Saint Louis Post Dispatch and many other top publications, and has been highlighted in segments on the Food Network and Travel Channel. In March 2004, Gitto opened Charlie Gitto's "From the Hill" inside Harrah's St. Louis Hotel and Casino. Garozzo's dream of owning a restaurant become a reality in April 1989. He opened Garozzo's Ristorante at 546 Harrison in Kansas City's Columbus Park area. As a business owner, Michael became involved in helping to restore the community. He even painted all the fire hydrants with the green, white and red of the Italian Flag. Garozzo's now boasts four locations in the greater Kansas City area. As each restaurant opens, they immediately become award winners due to the outstanding cuisine and award winning service. |

Small portions, rude waitstaff, very overpriced! Have no desire to go back.
I thought the food was excellent. We went there with a large group and our food still came out quickly. A very enjoyable experience.
I was extremely disappointed. Entrees are overpriced. The food was good, but nothing spectacular enough to warrant the price. The waitstaff was not accomodating when someone in our party had a special food request. In fact, they were downright rude. One of the owners came to our table to ask if everything was all right. When we told him no, and why, he basically said, 'oh well' and did nothing. I won't be going back there ever.
