There appears to be several categories of Mexican restaurants. One is the semi-clean mom-n-pop that seems to be a day ahead of the health inspectors (good food, scary surroundings). The next category is the regional chain that serves good food in a spotless environment. Abuelo's seems to be in a category all by itself.
First, the restaurant is huge. Easily, a couple hundred of people can comfortable eat there at the same time. Second, the service is top rate. An army of servers make sure that everything is OK and that your drink glasses never run dry and that the chips and salsa are always on the table.
If I have to whine about something here, it is the chips that come with your meals. They may be the thinnest chips on earth and they tend to break when dipping them in the salsa. Having said that, this is a minor thing to complain about.
Of course, the food is what brings people back to Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy. While I cannot attest to this being the best Mexican restaurant in the Lakeland area, my father-in-law said that he has tried them all and Abuelo's is the best--bar none. Who can argue with that?
If you see an Abuelo's as you travel down the road, it is worth stopping in for a meal. I think you will find it to be a good choice.
Great food, excellent service all set in a
beautiful decor. One of Lakeland's best restaurants. Highly recommended.
In a league of their own. Far and away the best Mexican restaurant in Lakeland and the surrounding 50 mile area. The food is excellent, the service is the best around. I've bene many times and never been disappointed.
