We were down on the old town mall last weekend for "Winchester Days." Ended up with the outdoor seating. The food took a little long to get to us but our server did a good job with our refills. Lunch for 2 adults and 3 kids ran us $48.00, includng tip. The kids had chicken tenders & the honey mustard was very good. My roast beef sandwhich was excellent. A little pricy considering we didn't even buy a beer but the food was good. Hands down better than Uncle Fred's BBQ which is a few doors down. I'd like to try Union Jack again for dinner with just the wife and leave the kids with a babysiter.
I recently went Union Jacks for the first time this weekend. I have to say it's awesome! It is extremely nice inside. The pub is amazing! The colors inside and the copper bar look so beautiful. It was all very welcoming even though it looks nicer than any bar around here for the average younger person. The bartenders were nice. Suggested some really good beers and at great prices. I have had some of the beers in other places and paid way more!!! I was amazed at the high end products they had. The food was sooooo! good. We just ordered off the Pub menu but I saw dinners going through the bar and I can't wait to go back to try more! We did end our night with a bread pudding that was to die for. The owners even chatted with us for a while. Very down to earth people and it just had a really friendly vibe to it! I think my friends and I have found our new favortie place to hang out.
A friend and I unfortunately passed the Union Jack by after poking our heads in the first time around. We saw the main dining area and thought that it look more like a hangout for middle-aged couples. On the second visit to the mall, we looked in again and saw a completely different crowd. Quite eclectic in fact. We found seats at the bar neat the kitchen. The selection of beer was impressive and eclectic much like the crowd.
We had just eaten dinner about an hour or so previous to visiting the Union Jack, but being near the kitchen got the best of my buddy and he ordered bangers and chips. He quite enjoyed the meal. The service wasn't top-notch, but it was far better than most other pubs we visit.
We returned again to the pub on the rare occassion that we both had a weekend evening free. This time we had dinner at the pub. He again enjoyed the bangers and chips while I tried the beer battered chicken strips and fries with curry sauce. We agreed that the food was excellent. Later that night I also had an order of wings which were also great. The wait staff were friendly enough, but unfortunately understaffed which meant less attentive than preferred. All in all, we enjoy visiting the pub and don't mind driving from Martinsburg, WV to enjoy better food, a better drink selection and better service.
