| About: | At Beacon Hospice, we provide compassionate care for those facing end-of-life issues and personal support to their families. Because patients prefer the comfort of familiar surroundings, we provide care wherever patients reside, whether in a private home, a nursing home, an assisted living facility or other in-patient setting. Hospice helps individuals live well. It is personal care that focuses on improving quality of life and reducing suffering. Individuals receiving hospice care typically have a life expectancy of weeks or a few months. Hospice provides services to support physical needs as well as the spiritual and emotional needs of individuals and their families and is tailored to personal needs and preferences. Covered hospice services include visits from hospice team members, as well as medications, medical equipment and supplies related to the terminal diagnosis. We bill insurers directly, eliminating the need for patients to file claims or other paperwork for care related to the terminal illness. Is hospice and palliative care an appropriate option? It's never easy to know when the time is right, but you may want to discuss hospice with your physician. Our local program leaders work directly with the medical community, families and caregivers to help ensure that every patient is treated with the greatest respect and dignity. Our staff serves as patient advocates and helps deliver sensitive, expert care using state-of-the-art techniques in pain management and symptom control. Physicians with experience in hospice and palliative medicine lead each hospice clinical team. Our hospice nurses have training and experience serving the unique needs of patients nearing the end of life, and, through our established relationships with community physicians, hospitals and nursing homes, we have a unique understanding and compassion for the health issues facing hospice patients. After the death of a loved one, the remaining family members are entitled under the Hospice benefit to 13 months of Bereavement care through our Center for Living With Loss. These highly trained counselors know the challenges of shouldering grief and have the tools to lighten the load. Beacon Hospice is about Life and not about Death!
