   MoreThe state of Louisiana, and especially the area comprising New Orleans and her surroundings, has had a very strong German presence since the Mississippi Company coaxed the Germans of the Alsace region to emigrate to the United States during the early 1700s. As the German population in the area grew, so did a need to form an entity or organization that would look after the German-American community. One such entity is the Deutches Haus, formed in 1928, whose parent organization, Deutsche Gesellschaft von New Orleans originated from as early as 1848. The Deutches Haus is dedicated to promote the German heritage, and does its best to spread awareness about German culture, music, language, and history through a range of events held throughout the year.
