we can do more for our homeless people here in elgin too. they need more help just like all homeless people i mean this is not that big. i have some things in mind . but i will need help.
HI LIZA. I WOULD TO SET SOMETHING UP IN MY HOME TO HELP MY HUBBY WORKS FOR WHOLE FOODS MARKET AS A MANAGER WERE I CAN GET FREE FOOD. I CAN ALSO GET CLOTHES AND THINGS. WE COULD HAVE LIKE A NONFORPROFIT ORGANIZATION.BUT BETTER THEN THIS JUNK THEY HAVE FOR THEM NOW. MOST OF IT IS CRAP.DON'T JUST GIVE THEM ANYTHING BACOUSE THERE HOMELESS PEOPLE.
just replied for info purposes..........i am thinking that if one has a "not for profit" and at the same time has the recipients coming to the home in a neighborhood, that there are statutes that demand criteria.
i don't believe you can just set something up w/o local/county/state laws.
Keep the drunk crazy people off my block
All homeless people are not drunks nor crazy! Your comment, Todd, is certainly not based on accurate information, but this seems to be the belief among many people.
Who's to say that you, yourself, may never lose your job and then your home? Todd, do you own a tv? ever watch the news or p/u a newspaper or wait......read any news via the internet?
Liza,
You do not want to open your home to homeless people. Many churches have programs to help the homeless. They are fed, clothed, given access to showers, they sleep in the church, thier clothing is washed, they are given breakfast and lunches. If you want to help these people do so through these existing organizations. The churches are being overwhelmed and need help. Check it out.
Robert F. - maybe you need to be addressing your commentary to Tanya. You might notice that my comments revloved around covenants, codes and restrictions.
Your view is logical and practical and I agree. Pls reread Tanya's info.
Oops - almost forgot. I believe shelters w/accept food/toiletries, etc. if they are in original packaging. I also believe that home baked goods cannot be donated.
An ending note to this topic, from me, is that to donate something you would not consume or use confidently, would be morally wrong.
I would be interested in this group, do you have any information?
Tanya - I take my hat off to you. YOU ARE A SWEETHEART, and there should be more like you!! But take a suggestion from experience and hands on dealings,OK? What you wanna do, you need to do somewhere in a public spot and not out of your home!! Get a store to let you put a table up in the driveway a few days a week or something and keep your home life private!! You will kick yourself into 2019, if you dont - TRUST ME!!!!
thank you mikeslivinglarge..i know it may sound like a'am a nut. some one has to help and give them more help them they've been geting. it's just not enuff help we have more and more homeless people then ever. just look around you the time you out. i hate to see people eating off the ground and out of gabbage cans. we also have kids out there now.. were is the love.. tanya hill
I lost my job, my car, and then my home. If it were not for good friends I would have been homeless myself. It was over 2 years before I regained full time employment. Im a broke accountant (not a bum or a drunk) these ppl need resources to get trained and there needs to be opportunity for everyone to earn a descent living.!!! Where are all the jobs in Elgin, where are all the business? They are leaving! Why? Politics maybe? What Elgin needs is more JOBS. I still live in Elgin, but commute to another county via Metra everyday to get there. Since I lost my car I take a cab to the train at 6am (buses dont start that early in ELGIN), then the train drops me off to another Cab. I work 9 1/2 hours a day and do the same trip home. I am blessed someone borrowed me the money so I could get to work the first couple weeks before I got paid. But there's gotta be a better way. Where are the jobs in Elgin?
Tanya & everyone,
With the help of several others in our local dance community, we are planning on a show/fundraiser for Elgin's P.A.D.S. shelter (www.padsofelgin.org) on Nov. 8th, 2009. It will be held in the Sears Hall at the Elgin Academy. If you want more info or would like to help promote this event to Elginites, please send me an email.
BTW, the other suburbs of Chicago have been sending us their homeless for 100 years now so they can say they don't have any... like Naperville, St. Charles, Park Ridge... all these "elite suburbs" buy them a 1-way cab ride to Elgin. This has GOT to stop...
Blessings,
Robin
Interesting to say the least about the cab ride info. How did you come about this? The answer may help find a solution on how to proceed in curbing that one. Wow!
I know of PADS, and there are others. I was unfortunate enough to stay in a women's shelter on the east side of town around 8 yrs ago (that's how I live here now)I was out of there by getting a job and a rental w/in 2 weeks BUT of all the women and kids there I was quite the exception as MANY have a career in going from 1 shelter to another and that blew me away.
So, how can I help with the event you speak of?
good morning everyone, as i drive around elgin, i to see the situation and it is out of hand, we as human beings , and as citizens of elgin have a responsibility to help one another,,, but helping has to have boudries, unfortunatley there are alot of homeless that do not want to change the situation. they rely on the goodness of others to support them, P.A.D.S is a way for the community to get involved. put your efforts into an organization which will work best and they have the experience to assist you.
Robin - how are we to email you if you do not allow it?
Hi Liza and everyone,
You can email me at info@...
Thanks. I hope to have some promo literature (posters, web page, etc.) in the next week or so. 8^)
Robin

Whether you are in Elgin - Roselle- Chicago or???? The homeless problem is growing as we speak? And look out people its gonna even get worse!! As long as someone like Barrack Obama is in the whitehouse -"LOOK OUT"!!!! The economy took a nose dive after his stimilus disaster, and as winter nears !!! More companys are gonna say "GOODBYE", and more people will be on the street!!?? So my suggestion to you all is to try to be nice and feel their pain,OK? It seems as tho, the attitude today is "NON CARING & HEARTLESS"??!! Lets change that to : "How can I Help"!!!! A smile and a few kind words, go so very very FAR!!!!
Hi there,
Our fundraiser to benefit the Elgin P.A.D.S. homeless shelter is in LESS than 2 weeks! We still have tickets available. It's called "From the Heart to the Hip"
You can find out more and purchase tickets at this web site: www.serafinadances.net/PADS
Please help spread the word! If this event sells out, we can have others.
Thanks,
Robin aka "Serafina"
