There are so many Pho restaurants. Which one is the best?
There's a pho restaurant on the corner of Tasman and Lawrence (Pho Queen). I found it reasonably priced and the Pho was good. At lunch, the line can be out the door, but service is actually quite quick. Based a few of the reviews I read others are not impressed. I wouldn't go there for the atmosphere, but for reasonably priced, fast, good pho - it's not bad.

I definitely recommend Pho Nam on El Camino:

It's very affordable, and pho bowls are fantastic! I also like their selection of non-alcoholic drinks (salty lemonade is my favorite). Check it out!
Caveat: a bowl of pho is *huge* - enough to feed two adult Ukrainians like me and my wife :)
That will have to be Queens at Tasman and Lawrence

Pho Queen is hit or miss. Depending on the day, the broth can be flavorful, on other days it can be very flat and watery.
Pho Bang (on Tully Road, not in Sunnyvale) is definitely worth the drive, with reasonable prices and the tastiest broth and freshest noodles.
I'm going to second Patrick Lok's recommendation:

I just had it yesterday and it's pretty tasty.
I also like California Noodle House a lot: http://local.yahoo.com/info-21580745-pho-xe-lua-noodle-house-santa-clara;_ylt=AlTFIgT7lGkFi6vP8OcIBKKHNcIF;_ylv=3?csz=Santa+Clara%2C+CA+95051
I like both Pho Nam mentioned here. A related question for people in the know: do pho restaurants all use MSG in their broth, or none of them use, or it's by restaurant?
Pho Kim Long in San Jose is the best in my opinion
Pho Hoa in Sunnyvale is one of the best pho I ever ate. They have friendly customer service. When I'm on a rush and need to eat something, I tend to think of Pho Hoa because they very fast. When I order noddle soup it only takes a few mins after I order to get my food. There also open til mid night which is a plus, because I like to eat during the night.
It's located on
3484 El Camino Real
Santa Clara, CA
Pho Queen is a fantastic Pho restraunt. I think I've tried Pho Hoa (described above) and I thought it was just so-so. Pho Queen is great because they give you a good amount of meat and noodles.. more than your usual Pho restaurant. I agree that it can be a hit or a miss.. if you get a chance I'd try to get there before lunch time (the lines get ridiculously long during lunch time), and you're likely to get fresher Pho. I've gone before lunchtime and after lunch time and there is a noticable difference.
Pho Nam on Wildwood, Sunnyvale is great. I always enjoy the rice, pork plate.
I've been to pho bang and the pho is ok but the rice plates aren't that good. I haven't been to a great pho place down here in the south bay yet.
Pho Queen will be the best to go, I haven't never been there, but my coworkers go there every weekend, and they give good reviews about, I will have to try it out too.
I have to agree with Pho Nam -- both locations on El Camino (94087) and Wildwood (94089). Each location has its own vibe... but the pho is made perfectly!
San Jose and the greater part of the Bay Area is home to the second largest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam(Orange County being the largest) so naturally its Pho has to be good as well(if you know where to look for it). Try Pho Y at the corner of Capitol Expy and King. There are a couple of clues to why is it being ONE of the best, first it ONLY serves PHO and soft drinks and NOTHING ELSE!(no rice plates, egg roll, etc...) and secondly, you will find that its customers are predominately Vietnamese(with an visibly increase of foreigner starting to discover it by friends and family). These people are absolutely serious about cooking a fine bowl of Pho and do not focus on anything else! The rules are very simple when you eat at any ethnic restaurant, if you see a their people are eating it, then it is a good sign. If not, then maybe you should ask yourself why??? The Pho shops on El Camino Real in Santa Clara or Milpitas and Sunnyvale are opened with a clear focus on the nearby company people. They are very busy serving the hungry mass at lunch and immediately turn into a ghost scene after the lunch rush. People just simply don't know any better!
Another good one is Pho 54 on Alum Rock. Original recipe from the Northern Vietnamse people. The number 54 meant the year 1954 when they immigrated from the North to South before the country got split in half and the Vietnam War as we know it began.
I have inlaws in Sunnyside, so i visit quite frequently. I was in the mood one morning for pho so my husband and i went on a hunt for a pho shop and we encountered pho vI hoa. I must say.. the service was bad and the food was below decent, but the atmosphere was okay... i was quite dissapointed. PHO QUEEN is right around the corner from my inlaws house.. i should have tried the food there instead!
yeah pho 54 awesome! the decor hasn't change since the 80's . The pho is authentic and the price hasn't change too much from the 80's.

I like the one in corner of El Camino Real and Stelling. They got a lot of choice, like Pho, and rice plate.
