What do you like for Mediterranean food on upper peninsula?
Med. Delite in San Carlos - great deal, good food, ok ambiance
Dolmas at Whole Foods (san mateo) are quite good
Evvia in PA is a bit far.
I like Delite as well. I've found some good-to-ok Mediterranean restaurants, but none that really stand out in the area. Here's a couple you can try out:
Alhana's on 37th ave in San Mateo - grocery store with a 'restaurant' in the back. The 'restaurant' is more like a deli with a few tables and chairs. The atmosphere is very casual and I only recommend going there to get a quick bite to eat or taking it to-go.
Rainbow Pizza on De Anza Blvd in San Mateo - yes, a pizza joint. Their menu consists of Italian and Mediterranean - sometimes mixed together. The atmosphere is casual. I recommend their Sharwma and Greek Salad. Their pizzas are not that bad too.
Mediterranean Kebab on Burlingame Ave in Burlingame - casual atmosphere, good prices, but limited menu. I recommend going there for lunch or an impromptu dinner. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sharwma.
Thanks, guys. I forgot about Rainbow Pizza. It's a whacky menu but I remember enjoying their pizza years back.
Forgot to mention Shalizaar in Belmont. This place was on 25th ave in San Mateo. They moved to 300 El Camino in Belmont. A little pricey, but the food is good. I recommend this place for a sit-down dinner.
We tried Shalizaar but found it too bland. Maybe we should try again...
There's a place on 3rd that across from the theaters that's good. Small place....can't remember the name right now.
I went to Santorini in San Carlos last weekend. It was pretty good. The prices are reasonable too.

Thanks, guys. Michael P., don't know about that place. Will have to check it out.
Rainbow Pizza has pretty good pizza. Very oily and garlicky though. We tried the Gyro and it was as good as you'll find in the bay area.
I like Santorini too. Good food and decent prices.
Does anyone know where I can find good gyros?
I am spoiled by my trip to Greece last year. I can't seem to find any good gyros here.
Try Kabul in San Carlos (on El Camino near the San Carlos / Belmont border next to Longs).
It's an upscale Afghani place that has the best kebabs (chicken, beef, lamb) around.
Mediterranean fusion on San Carlos ave is a really great place. Their gyros are the best on the peninsula, very well seasoned, juicy and tender. The special fries are also very good. Top it off with one of the most artistic (an ya, very delicious) cup of coffee in San Carlos. We too like Mediterranean Fusion. Tannourine on 25th Ave. in San Maateo is great as well. The Chicken Shawerma at lunch is a bargain and really delicious. It's a great big plate of food at a reasonable price and the dip for the Pita bread is wonderful!
The place that shares a parking lot with Baskin Robins on El Camino in San Carlos is really good too. No atmosphere but good food.

For quick, original and cheap bites. I suggest Aladdin Market & Deli on Hillsdale, San Mateo. Great fresh middleastern food. Was voted best sandwiches of san Mateo County on KRON TV Channal 4. HAPPY DINING........
I second aladdin's! and now they have bbq on fri and sat out on the sidewalk, yummy stuff. they make all their deli items and they have lots of great olives and fresh pita bread daily. they also have rotisserie chickens with a very nice lemon marinade.
The Turkish restaurant on Laurel at the end near the train station is FABULOUS!
What's the name? Or what's next door to it? I can't think of a Turkish restaurant on Laurel anywhere.
Thanks,
PB
Here is an off-the-beaten path suggestion: try Good Bites Cafe on El Camino, which serves an intriguing collection of Middle Eastern and (hold onto your hats) Filipino cuisine. No dinner service, though.
Dish Dash restaurant in Sunnyvale - their food is the best I have had. They are among about ten caterers who provide lunches at my workplace, and I look forward with greatest anticipation to their food. Great variety, perfect preparation.
I have not eaten at their restaurant, and have heard that it can be very full.
Pilita on Laurel St. is the EXCELLENT Turkish restaurant.
We've been there a couple of time, but the service was TERRIBLE!
anybody try the new Gyro House place? i believe its on the corner of el camino and marina. on the right if you're heading north on el camino.

Mediterranean Delite is a great call, particularly for lunch or something quick. Another related restaurant that is quite good (though expensive) is Rumi on Laurel Street in San Carlos.
