I'm looking for contractors who can perform an energy audit on my 1-story house. PGE says they no longer offer this service, nor do they provide referrals. I'd appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.

Sears offers an energy audit for $275. Not sure if they service Campbell though.

I thought that PG&E offered this service as well.

I believe PG&E still performs eneryg-efficiency audits for businesses, churches, etc., but no longer for private residences.

The non -profit Acterra runs the Green @ Home program at least though June in Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City. It is a FREE and basic energy efficiency audit, funded with grant money. Two trained volunteers go over the energy bill with the resident and install such upgrades as retractable clothes lines, faucet aerators, and low flow showerheads. They also measure the electricity draw of some appliances, install 3 free compact fluorescents, and even check your cars' tires, as desired. When I was looking around earlier this year, Sears & PGE told me that they do not offer this service in my area. I ended up going with http://www.homez.net/.

Pros: Nice, clean website. During my initial consultation, I spoke with Rick Nordensten about my specific needs/concerns, and he patiently listened. He assured that they would accommodate all of my requests. Once they came to my house for the actual diagnostic, I met the entire crew, and they conducted themselves with professionalism. Overall, I received a very positive initial impression of this company.

Cons: The execution of the diagnostic was chaotic. Although I knew in advance that Rick wasn't going to be present for the actual diagnostic, it was difficult to figure out who was in charge once their crew showed up. They ended up packing up and leaving without addressing all of the concerns that I explained to Rick during the initial consultation. For the price I paid, I expected that they would have done a better job accommodating my requests.

Conclusion: Although they are all very nice people, I would not pay that kind of money for homez's diagnostic service again.

Have you heard about Green Up in Sunnyvale? They seem to be pretty comprehensive. Take a look at some of their pictures. They found a mouse/rodent infestation in somebody's ducts!!! Gross!
