I really hope this place isn't closed. The food is fantastic. I have not ordered a single thing I didn't love. The only thing that holds this place back is the location. They are kind of out there.

This place is very cute and nice to hang out and chat. The service is very good and the coffee is good as well. I do wish they had better desserts.

This is my favorite italian food in the area. The steaks are great. I love the tomato and goat cheese bruschetta appetizer. They make delicious bread and the sausage and lentil soup is spicy and tastey. I like the ambiance and have found the service above average.
I am a NYC cuban stuck in Pensacola. I've been waiting a long time for a cuban restaurant to open. I was somewhat disappointed with Varona's. Let me start by saying the food is overpriced. The type of food they serve is cuban everyday house food. In cuban restaurants fancy food is usually dishes from spain. Ropa Vieja is one of my favorite dishes and cost 6 dollars in NY and is only 10 dollars at Yucca's (on Cervantes.) He is charging 16. The appetizers like papa rellena and croquests only cost about 1.50 up north and are about the same at Yucca's.. not to mention they taste better. We found the food to be on the bland side. I think it's interesting that the cook is from asturias because my grandmother was from there and moved to cuba and her cuban food was much better. I ordered the Lechon which was horrible. It was dry and had a weird flavor. My bf ordered the steak which is actualy argentinian and he enjoyed it. The croquets tasted bready and didn't have enough meat. The empanadas were not made in a traditional cuban dough. I did like the bread with the aioli(not cuban). The beans and rice were okay. I ordered Tres Leches for dessert, it's my favorite. It tasted as good as the Meixan restaurants in the area serve it. I'm wondering if they get it from the same vendor. One thing that annoyed me is that it had cream on top instead of merengue. My bf had the flan and it was average. It's weird because I had his picadillo (cuban dish) at the airport and it was pretty good.
I do want to give them credit though. The place is beautiful and has a old havana feel to it. The music was nice and our drinks were fine.. we didn't have mojitos. The service was fine too.
So far the best cuban food in Pensacola is served by the columbian owner over at Yuccas. He only has a few dishes and sometimes he serves them with south-american condiments but still way better. Varona's still has a lot of things to work out.
