Mina's Italian Restaurant (and Pizza), located at 935 Saw Mill River Road in Adrsley, is a family type place, as noted in another review. The dining room can be busy, especially when it's time for the evening special prices of about $10 to $11 for meals that include salad, main with pasta, coffee or tea, and dessert.
On a recent evening, I was one of a party of four for the special, above. There were two orders of salmon, one fillet of sole, and my veal parm. The veal was fine for the price, but it lacked the tenderness that I expected. What it lacked in that respect was made up for in the quantity, if that's an appropriate trade-off. Ziti was the only pasta offered with the special dinners.
The salmon was said to be dry and lacking in flavor, but it was fresh and without a fishy odor. Vegetables that were served with this dish were good. The sole was reportedly good.
When food is cheap, or euphemistically, reasonable, some compromises should be expected, so it may be unfair to compare what we ordered to what might be served at a more expensive place. It should be noted that the regular menu prices were about 50% higher than what was offered on the special menu. The addition of coffee and some dessert might raise that difference. It is not known whether the veal or salmon ordered from the more expensive menu would have been the same.
Mina's is located in a shopping center that has a parking lot. Entry is at lot level and there are no steps, if accessibility is important. One restroom was closed for repair, so the one that was open received more visitors than usual. The cleanliness of that restroom was okay, but not wonderful.
Service was good, but not personal, as it was busy and this is a reasonable place. There was no choice of dessert nor any indication that this was so until our server delivered four servings of what was a variety of Napoleon cake. The cake was okay. My four out of five star rating indicates that for the price, this was a pretty good deal. The food was acceptable without being memorable either way. Service was good for a family type place, and major credit cards are accepted. The tables were uncovered, but the napkins were cloth.
If you live nearby and have not tried Mina's, do stop by for lunch, dinner, or pizza to have there or at home.
