Music Millennium

Portland, OR
Music Stores

Review Date: 11/04/2009

Music Millennium - once there were two, now there's just one - a massive, giant, pretty-well organized music library that will appeal to any taste - I dare anyone to go in there and not find at least 1-2 things to buy. Their used selection is fantastic and prices are very fair, they run big specials, in-store shows w/bands, promotions for new releases, tickets to shows w/just $1 surcharge - you name it, and they are spot-on. Easy place to lose a half-day and all the $$$ in your wallet in.

The owner is a music fanatic, and the store reflects it - the staff are well-versed and quick to refer you to another employee if they know that person has a lot of knowledge about a certain genre or style. Everyone is very laid-back, so don't be in a hurry, and realize that it's all about enjoy the pursuit of music and not being rush-rush-rush. If it seems like they're taking their time, they are, but it's not to offend you. Just breathe deeply and relax.

The owner, again, is really a Portland Hero - he borrowed and made a better version of the "Keep Portland Weird" campaign and stickers, and is a truly nice guy and one of the Twenty Most Important People who Make Portland Special. It's a great store and I've never been disappointed when I visit - just often finding my wallet empty and a bag of CDs in my hand instead. Music Millennium is one of those places that should have a plaque or something - as all the good old Portland stuff dies off for Yet More Condos, these guys keep working hard to be one the best record stores in the entire U.S. Seriously.
