I'm going to give the Stanly Hall Cafe five stars based on my prior experiences with their take out. My other experiences found the restaurant with courteous service, imaginative combinations and high quality food. This restaurant is a definite welcome to New Bern! As I said I have had take-out from Stanley Hall Cafe several times and have throughly enjoyed each time…until this past Friday. I arrived on time yet my food was ice cold and sloppily placed in the take out container. My salad was extremely small for the price and the lettuce was very wilted. I was very disappointed in both the portion size and the quality. A breadstick or something in addition would have made for a more satisfying meal. There was maybe a cup and a half to two cups worth of food in my container. Upon opening it I actually laughed out loud it was so pathetic. My partner’s sandwich was put in with unwrapped fruit and the bread was soggy and unappetizing. For the $20 we spent on two small meals we were very disappointed. This, I hope, is the exception and not the rule. I will give the Stanly Hall Cafe another chance, though unfortunately due to their prices (almost $10 per lunch) I can't afford to be too "brave".
