If this the same place I am thinking of, which I think is called El Meson or La Meson, anyway it is located just east of the tracks at the 1st St. fork. If so, the food is certainly far, far better than any other in town for Mexican cuisine. As in really Mexican. The servers speak English. They have a bar. At lunch anyway, it is a very nice place to eat. Flavorful food, well prepared and mostly clean. Too many servers are teenagers but most of the time, they seem to be trained to at least be careful and caring.
Nothing I have ordered was drowned in sauce, but complemented with just enough. I find that reassuring. Nothing was so spicy I could not finish it. In fact, it could be hotter. Was served some old salsa one time, which was disappointing. Usually the tortillas are hot, the salsa is freshly poured, the food well prepared.
I do recommend this place for much closer to authentic Mexican food than any other place in town.
El Chicos and Two Senoritas do NOT serve authentic Mexican food, at all. They serve Tex-Mex, which is revolting. Please, at least do not call it Mexican or pretend for it to be Mexican. Put some big spurs on the roof, park a plastic cow by the door, and change the name to Chico Ranch or Dos Cowboys or something. Really.
The parking is make it up as you go. Too many potholes. Is located next to a small store that seems to have unpleasant looking men hanging around all the time. But I have never had any problems whenever I have gone at lunch. I do not know how it is in the evenings yet.
