We dined at McCrady's on 11/2/09. The concierge at our hotel highly recommended it. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The wine list is extensive, but pricey. The staff was attentive at first, but grew increasingly more disorganized as the evening progressed. Our dishes were served to the wrong place setting, and there were long stretches where we didn't see a waiter. My husband and I ordered the three course tasting menu and both of our guests ordered the chicken dish from the a la carte menu. When we began to eat our main course, my daughter discovered that her chicken was raw on the inside. I'm talking blood red chicken. We waited an extremely long time until our waiter came to check on us. When he saw her meal, he was shocked and promptly took it back to the kitchen. Several long minutes later, he returned her meal and left. Imagine her horror when she cut into it again only to find that it was still undercooked. When he returned, our waiter was again surprised and offered to have them cook it some more. By that time, my daughter was not interested. The wine steward came to the table and apologized to her, but made no offer of another dinner. She hadn't ordered a salad or appetizer, so she left the restaurant hungry. They didn't charge us for the dinner, and gave her a free dessert, but we were extremely disappointed with the experience. Personally speaking, my meal was attractive, but not tasty. The flavor combinations just didn't work for me. Why do modern chefs continue to serve vegetables undercooked? Included with my grouper was fresh lima beans that were barely warm and hard as a rock. We live in Ohio and have visited Charleston on five occasions. We love the restaurants there, but this is one we will never return to.
