I took my guinea pig to Dr. Hurlbert when he was so ill, despite being treated by our "normal" vet. She saved his life. She (and the other vets in her practice) are acknowledged cavy experts and it makes a life vs. death difference as guinea pigs require specialized care that many vets are not aware of. Thanks to her, he survived his illness. She later performed surgery on him and then, years later, she treated him for months as he suffered from cancer. The care and concern that she and her whole staff showed me when he eventually passed was incredible.
For an emergency rescue case, she met me at her practice on a Sunday morning. I've had to make emergency visits early in the morning or late at night, sometimes on weekends. The vets have always met me, waiting to deliver their expert care.
If you own a guinea pig (or other exotic), you will eventually need medical care. Take them straight to the expert, Dr. Hurlbert, and not only will you save yourself crucial time and money, you will save their life. They are not throw-away pocket pets, they are precious lives that depend on you to do your best for them.
