My child was enrolled for 14 months. All was fine while she was in the infant room. When the staff started to transition her into the toddler room we were not notified and had no idea she had been spending time in there until almost a month later. She was being dropped off in the infants and picked up in the infants. It was not until one of the staff members told us where she was spending her days that we spoke with the director about it. The director was both unprofessional and defensive. She told my husband that she could not possibly communicate with all of her parents and that it was not her job to make sure we were aware of the transition that it was entirely up to her teachers. In addition, we were still paying a higher infant tuition for several weeks even though our child was in the toddler room. The director never offered the lower tuition until we told her that we knew she was spending her days with the older kids. In addition to the unprofessional way that our child's transition was handled, the toddler room teacher lacked the experience and training that is needed to safely supervise our child. Myself and other parents have seen her on her phone texting while the kids are running wild. Other staff has told us that she often gets overwhelmed and frustrated with so many toddlers. The lack of supervision of this teacher resulted in my child, and others, getting injured several days in a row. While I know that todds are rambunctious and will get bumps and bruises, it is my opinion that with proper supervision these should not occur every single day. During my child's last week enrolled at this facility, she received a large bruise and scrape on her forehead on Tuesday, was bit on Wednesday, received another scrape to her head on Thursday and bit another child on Friday. The following Monday she fell outside on the concrete play area and her entire forehead from her eyebrow to her hair line to her temple was scraped badly. Of all of these injuries I only received one phone call at work and one injury report despite having told the director that if my child were to get any kind of physical mark from an injury I would like to be notified. The day after her last injury, we were presented with an injury report to sign. We refused to sign it as the accident had happened nearly 24 hours before. We removed our child the day after this happened. After removing our child we began receiving phone calls of other concerned parents. Two other children were removed this same week and two more the week after. We filed a complaint with the state licensing board and in doing so we were told by the program evaluator for this facility that there had already been close to 10 other complaints filed on this facility in the past 4 months. These complaints were for things such as; improper discipline, unsafe sleep supervision, inadequate staff supervision, inadequate meal time supervision, director keeping personal items for nonpayment, inadequate child: teacher ratio, false injury reports, improper cell phone use by staff etc. In speaking with the program evaluator, I learned that several of these complaints had been validated and write ups and/or consequences had been given. I would encourage anyone looking for a facility to call the local licensing board to inquire about complaints that have been filed as well as the actions taken in response to those complaints. When we removed our child from this facility, the director became defensive and unprofessional. It is my opinion that she spent far too much time trying to find out how disgruntled parents were finding out what goes on behind closed doors and not enough time reprimanding her staff for not following policy and procedures and making sure they are properly trained. No childcare is perfect and there is always room for improvement but there are far too many complaints on KLA. I would not recommend this facility. Please keep looking.
