Lots of information at the COC office, including photos of the transformation of Helen from a dying logging town to a vibrant tourist trap with an Alpine theme. If ever there is an example of how a focused community with good leadership can make a name for itself, Helen is it. Warm and welcoming, but a bit off the beaten trail, so it still has some small town charm. And the Octoberfest and Christmas festivals are memorable. During our vacation in August my family enjoys the German band down at the Octoberfest building by the river with some bratwurst and beer.
